At Montessori we believe that children's ability to learn from birth to the age of six is like sponges. They absorb knowledge through all their senses making use of each an every experience they encounter. Dr Maria Montessori called this the "absorbent mind" and highlighted the importance of providing the children with the best of the experiences at this stage.
Our 2—6 years programme covers the areas of:
- Practical Life
- Sensorial
- Language
- Mathematics
- Cultural Subjects
- Music & Movement
- Art & Craft
Our children also engage in many indoor and outdoor activities such as gardening, physical activities, baking and many more.
Practical Life
Practical life is considered the corner stone of the Montessori programme as it lays the foundation for all the future learning. Children are naturally inclined towards the activities they see in their day to day life. We seize this natural inclination to help the child gain control in the coordination of movement and independence. Further, the young children begin to develop concentration with these interesting activities at a very early stage.
Sensorial Activities
The sensorial exercises give the children the opportunity to learn through their senses. The purpose of the Sensorial activities is to help the children in their efforts to sort out the varied impressions they accumulate through their senses. These activities are specifically designed to help the child develop intelligent observation, discrimination, order, and to broaden and refine the senses.
Cultural Subjects
The Montessori Cultural area covers a variety of subjects such as Science, Geography, Zoology, Botany and History. These extremely hands on activities quenches the thirst of the curious little minds, and answers most of their "what?", "why?" and "how?" questions.
Mathematics & Language
The Montessori environment and activities are designed to naturally prepare the child for oral and written language and mathematics.
The children engage with concrete to abstract materials, progressing from easy to more challenging activities, through their time at the Montessori, which give them a solid foundation in these areas.
